    Let \(-\infty<a=x_0< x_1<\dots<x_n=b< \infty\) be a partition of \([a,b]\) with \(h = \max\,(x_{j+1} -x_j)\). The authors construct an osculatory rational interpolation function \(r\) which fulfills the Hermite conditions \[ r(x_j) = f(x_j)\,, \quad r'(x_j) = f'(x_j)\,, \quad j=0,\dots,n\,, \] where \(f\) is sufficiently smooth. For \(f \in C^{2d+2}[a,b]\) with \(d\in \{0,\dots,n\}\) it is shown that \[ \|f - r \|_{C[a,b]} = {\mathcal O}(h^{2d+1}) \] as \(h\to 0\). For \(f \in C^{2d+3}[a,b]\) with \(d\in \{1,\dots,n\}\) it is proven that \[ \|f' - r' \|_{C[a,b]} = {\mathcal O}(h^{2d-1}) \] as \(h\to 0\). A barycentric form of the osculatory rational interpolation function is presented. Numerical examples are given too.
