In this paper, the authors consider \(C^*\)-quantum groups, which are \(C^*\)-bialgebras generated by so-called manageable multiplicative unitaries, as studied by the last author [Int. J. Math. 7, No. 1, 127--149 (1996; Zbl 0876.46044)] and \textit{P. M. Sołtan} and the last author [J. Funct. Anal. 252, No. 1, 42--67 (2007; Zbl 1134.46044)]. In this context, they give a formulation of the \textit{D. E. Radford} biproduct theorem for Hopf algebras with a projection [J. Algebra 92, 322--347 (1985; Zbl 0549.16003)] and the bosonization construction of \textit{S. Majid} [Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 158, 55--105 (1994; Zbl 0812.18004)], and show that every \(C^*\)-quantum group with a projection decomposes as a `semidirect product' of an ordinary \(C^*\)-quantum group and a Yetter-Drinfeld braided \(C^*\)-quantum group. The projections on \(C^*\)-quantum groups used in this paper are morphisms of \(C^*\)-quantum groups as introduced by \textit{C.-K. Ng} in the paper [J. Oper. Theory 38, No. 2, 203--224 (1997; Zbl 0907.46049)], the authors use characterizations given in [Münster J. Math. 5, No. 1, 1--24 (2012; Zbl 1297.46050)]. The analogue of Yetter-Drinfeld braided Hopf algebra for \(C^*\)-quantum groups is the one studied by the authors in [J. Noncommut. Geom. 10, No. 3, 859--888 (2016; Zbl 1362.46070)].
