Magnetic fields are one of the main players in astrophysics, plasma physics, fusion theory and fusion experiments. The paper deals with the theoretical fundamentals of closed magnetic geodesics and their properties. It is proven that there are no more than two simple closed magnetic geodesics on \(S^2\). They correspond to periodic orbits of a charge in a magnetic field.
