Let \((M,g,J)\) be an almost Hermitian manifold with Kähler two-form \(\Omega\). Such a manifold is said to be almost Kählerian if \(d \Omega = 0\). This class clearly contains the Kähler manifolds (i.e., \(\Omega\) is parallel) but there exist many non-Kählerian almost Kähler spaces. A well-known conjecture of Goldberg claims that any compact almost Kähler Einstein space is Kählerian, or equivalently, the almost complex structure is integrable. Despite the many efforts already made by several researchers, this conjecture is still open and only partial positive results are given. For example, K. Sekigawa proved that the conjecture holds when the scalar curvature is non-negative. In the paper under review the author attacks the integrability condition by imposing several kinds of curvature conditions and derives a series of interesting positive results, some of which generalize already known properties such as the result of Sekigawa, for example. A part of this work strongly depends on a given modification of a well-known Weitzenböck formula. Special attention is given to the four-dimensional case.
