The authors study curvature flows of hypersurfaces in a Euclidean space, using an earlier work of \textit{R. S. Hamilton} [Contemp. Math. 71, 237-262 (1988; Zbl 0663.53031)] on Harnack inequalities for second-order linear parabolic equations of divergence form. They show that with respect to an appropriate metric on space-time, the space-slices evolve by mean curvature flow. Using this, they identify the Harnack quadratic for the mean curvature with the trace Harnack quadratic for the Ricci flow.
