W. S. Cheung initiated the study of commuting mappings of matrix algebras, by determining the class of triangular algebras for which every commuting linear mapping is proper. This pacer extends the main results obtained by \textit{W. S. Cheung} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 63, No. 1, 117--127 (2001; Zbl 1014.16035)] to the case of generalized matrix algebras, an is devoted to the study of commuting mappings of generalized matrix algebras. The authors describe the general form of an arbitrary commuting mapping on generalizee matrix algebras and give some sufficient conditions which enable the commuting mappings to be proper. A number of applications related to commuting mappings are also presented.
