Let \(L\) be the standard filiform Lie algebra of dimension \(n+2\). The purpose of this article is to describe the center, \(Z_n\) of the universal enveloping algebra of \(L\). The invariant rings of these algebras are also investigated, This center is shown to be equal to the polynomial solutions \(f\in F[y_0,\dots,y_n]\) to \(\sum y_i \partial f/\partial y_{i+1}=0\). The operator \(f\longmapsto\sum y_i \partial f/\partial y_{i+1}\) is called the Weitzenböck derivation on \(F[y_0,\dots,y_n]\). This action can be extended to an irreducible representation of \(sl_2\) to obtain information on \(Z_n\). Explicit generators for \(Z_n\) and an integral form of its Hilbert series are found. Examples are given.
