This paper deals with projective tensor products with strongly subdifferentiable norm. It is recalled that a norm on a Banach space $X$ is said to be strongly subdifferentiable (SSD) if, for every $x\in X$ of norm~$1$, the one-sided limit \[ \lim_{t\rightarrow 0^+} \frac{\|x-th\|-\|x\|}{t} \] exists uniformly for $h\in S_X$. We denote by $X\otimes_{\pi}Y$ the projective tensor product of \(X\) and \(Y\). It is shown that if the projective norm is strongly subdifferentiable and either $X$ or $Y$ has the metric approximation property then every bounded operator from $X$ to \(Y^*\) is compact. The author also proves that $(\ell_p(I)\otimes\ell_q(J))^*$ has the $w^*$-Kadec-Klee property for every non-empty sets $I,J$ and every \(2 < p, q < \infty\). This, in particular, implies that the norm of $\ell_p(I)\otimes_{\pi}\ell_q(J)$ is strongly subdifferentiable. The author states that these results extend other results of \textit{S.~Dantas} et al. [Rev. R. Acad. Cienc. Exactas Fís. Nat., Ser. A Mat., RACSAM 114, No.~2, Paper No. 47, 16~p. (2020; Zbl 1440.46008)]. The author also gives examples of spaces $X$ and $Y$ for which the set of norm-attaining tensors in $X\otimes_{\pi}Y$ is dense but whose complement is also dense.
