The notion of exceptional cycles in a triangulated category with a Serre functor is a generalization of spherical objects. A notable property is that every exceptional cycle in a triangulated category \(\mathcal{T}\) induces an auto-equivalence of \(\mathcal{T}\) [\textit{N. Broomhead} et al., Math. Z. 285, No. 1--2, 39--89 (2017; Zbl 1409.18012)]. The paper under review provides a method to construct new exceptional cycles from given ones. More precisely, let \(A\) and \(B\) be Gorenstein \(k\)-algebras, and let \(E_*=(E_1,\dots,E_n)\) and \(F_*=(F_1,\dots,F_m)\) be exceptional cycles in \(K^b(A-\text{proj})\) and \(K^b(B-\text{proj})\) respectively. The author introduces a new sequence \(E_*\boxtimes F_*\), called the product of \(E_*\) and \(F_*\), and proves that the sequence \(E_*\boxtimes F_*\) is an exceptional cycle in \(K^b(\Lambda-\text{proj})\), where \(\Lambda\) is the upper triangular matrix algebra \[ \left(\begin{array}{cc} A&N\\ &B\end{array}\right) \] with \(N=E_n\otimes \text{Hom}_k(F_1)\). The main result is applied to selfinjective Nakayama algebras, and some new exceptional cycles are constructed.
