Let \(R\) be a ring and \(P\) a prime ideal in it. By using the prime ideal \(P\), the authors generalise in three different ways the derivation of \(R\). They define a \(P\)-derivation, a generalised \(P\)-derivation and \(P\)-multiplier of \(R\). A mapping \(d:R\rightarrow R\) is called a \textit{\(P\)-derivation} of \(R\) if for all \(x, y\in R\), the elements \(d(x+y)-d(x)-d(y)\) and \(d(xy)-d(x)y-xd(y)\) both belong to \(P\). A generalised \(P\)-derivation of \(R\) and a \(P\)-multiplier of \(R\) are defined by modifying the definition of a \(P\)-derivation. It is shown how these generalisations of a derivation of \(R\) with some conditions on them determine properties of the ring \(R/P\).
