Around 2010, \textit{V. Mazorchuk} and \textit{V. Miemietz} started a systematic study of representation theory of finitary 2-categories [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2016, No. 24, 7471--7498 (2016; Zbl 1404.18014); Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 368, No. 11, 7623--7644 (2016; Zbl 1365.18006); Math. Z. 282, No. 1--2, 411--434 (2016; Zbl 1375.18037); Mosc. Math. Finitary 2-categories can be considered as natural 2-analogues of finite-dimensional algebras. The paper [\textit{V. Mazorchuk} and \textit{V. Miemietz}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 368, No. 11, 7623--7644 (2016; Zbl 1365.18006)] introduces the notion of \textit{simple transitive} 2-representations of finitary 2-categories, providing convincing arguments, including an adaption of the Jordan-Hölder theorem, of why these 2-representations are a natural 2-analogue of the notion of a simple module over an associatieve algebras, which motivated the natural problem of classification of simple transitvie 2-representations for various classes of finitary 2-categories [\textit{J. Zimmermann}, Commun. Algebra 47, No. 3, 1222--1237 (2019; Zbl 1409.18007); J. Pure Appl. Algebra 221, No. 3, 666--690 (2017; Zbl 1360.18008); \textit{X. Zhang}, J. Pure Appl. Kildetoft} et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 371, No. 8, 5551--5590 (2019; Zbl 1409.18005)]. The smallest example of the algebra \(A\)\ for which the category \(A\)-mod-\(A\)\ is not finitary, but is, at least tame, is the algebra \(D:=\boldsymbol{k}\left[ x\right] /\left( x^{2}\right) \)\ of dual numbers. Although not being finitary itself, \(D\)-mod-\(D\)\ has a lot of finitary subcategories and subquotients. The principal objective in this paper is to understand simple transitive 2-representations of \(D\)-mod-\(D\)\ corresponding to simple transitive 2-representations of its finitary subquotients. The main result of the paper is Theorem 1 (\S 3.2) asserting that simple transitive 2-representations of \(D\)-mod-\(D\) with finitary apex are necessarily of rank 1 or 2, and in the last case, each such 2-representation is necessarily equivalent to a so-called cell 2-representaion. At this stage the author is not able to classify rank 1 simple transitive 2-representaions.
