Stability of a flexible missile and asymptotics of the eigenvalues of fourth order boundary value problems (Q6084852)

The paper studies the eigenvalue problem \[ y^{(4)}(x)-(g(x)y'(x))' = \lambda^2 y(x) \] on the interval \([0,a]\) with certain boundary conditions at the endpoints. These boundary conditions are dependent on the spectral parameter \(\lambda\). The author claims that the problem occurs when investigating elastic rods or the stability of a flexible missile. The asymptotics of the spectral parameter is studied, and the results are in the final section applied to the flexible missile problem. The paper is not very readable, e.g. the definition of Birkhoff regular problem is missing.
