The aim of the paper under review is to characterize extra-special Enriques surfaces after the studies by \textit{F. R. Cossec} and \textit{I. V. Dolgachev} [Enriques surfaces. I. Boston, MA etc.: Birkhäuser Verlag (1989; Zbl 0665.14017)], and many others. The first part is devoted to show that a \(2\)-sequence \((F_1, F_2)\) not extending to a \(3\)-sequence on an Enriques surface \(X\) induces the statement that \(X\) admits a special genus-one fibration of type \(II^*\) by either \(|2F_1|\) or \(|2F_2|\). The second part is devoted to a classification of such Enriques surfaces in terms of the Dynkin diagram formed of \((-2)\)-curves on the surface. As a result of the paper, they concluded that an Enriques surface is extra-special if and only if no \(c\)-sequence for \(c\leq2\) is extendable to a \(3\)-sequence. In the proofs, arguments are mostly focusing on numerical properties of divisors. There are also geometric interpretations of the structure of the surfaces in the remarks.
