The author proves some explicit a priori estimates for the joint spectral radius of a matrix set. The estimates are based on the notion of the measure of irreducibility (or quasi-controllability) of a matrix set, previously introduced and investigated by \textit{V. S. Kozyakin} and \textit{A. V.
