For a closed orientable 2-orbifold \(\mathcal{O}\) of negative Euler characteristic, \textit{J. Huebschmann} [Duke Math. J. 80, No. 3, 737--756 (1995; Zbl 0852.58037); ibid. 757--770 (1995; Zbl 0852.58038)] constructed the Atiyah-Bott-Goldman type symplectic form \(\omega\) on the deformation space \({\mathcal{C}}({\mathcal{O}})\) of convex projective structures on \(\mathcal{O}\). Generalizing a previous paper for the case of closed surfaces by \textit{S. Choi} et al. [Pure Appl. Math. Q. 16, No. 5, 1321--1386 (2020; Zbl 1468.53068)], the authors of the present paper show that the deformation space \({\mathcal{C}}({\mathcal{O}})\) admits a global Darboux coordinate system with respect to \(\omega\). ``To this end, we show that \({\mathcal{C}}({\mathcal{O}})\) can be decomposed into smaller symplectic spaces. In the course of the proof, we also study the deformation space \({\mathcal{C}}({\mathcal{O}})\) for an orbifold \(\mathcal{O}\) with boundary and construct the symplectic form on the deformation space of convex projective structures on \(\mathcal{O}\) with fixed boundary holonomy.'' Concerning ``higher Teichmüller spaces'' (based on the unique irreducible presentation \(\mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb R) \to \mathrm{PSL}_n(\mathbb R)\)), the authors also study the symplectic nature of the ``Hitchin components'' (the connected component containing a Fuchsian character) via convex projective geometry. ``Our approach is mainly geometric and works mostly for \(\mathrm{PSL}_3(\mathbb R)\). Recently \textit{D. Alessandrini} et al. [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 25, No. 4, 1285--1347 (2023; Zbl 07683512)] gave a generalization of Hitchin components of orbifolds by using equivariant Higgs bundle theory.''
