In a finite group, three technical conditions (to be of type C, D, or F) are known for a conjugacy class \(O\), which imply that \(O\) collapses, that is to say that any Nichols algebra of group type with support isomorphic to \(O\) is infinite-dimensional. Conjugacy classes not of type C, D or F are said to be kthulhu. Two conditions on the underlying rack (sobriety, austerity) imply that a conjugacy class is kthulhu. It is proved that any semi-simple conjugacy class in \(\mathbf{PSL}_n(q)\) or in \(\mathbf{PSp}_n(q)\) collapses, with the possibility of a few exceptions in the last case for \(n=2\) and \(q=3\), \(5\) or \(7\). A complete list of kthulhu classes of \(\mathbf{PSL}_n(q)\) and \(\mathbf{PSp}_{2n}(q)\) is established. As a consequence, it is shown that the groups \(\mathbf{PSL}_n(q)\) with \(n \geq 4\), \(\mathbf{PSL}_3(q)\) with \(q > 2\), and \(\mathbf{PSp}_{2n}(q)\) with \(n\geq 3\) collapse, that is to say every finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra \(H\) which group of group-like elements is isomorphic to one on these groups is in fact the group Hopf algebra.
