The study of set-theoretical solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation began with a paper by \textit{V. G. Drinfel'd} [Lect. Notes Math. 1510, 1--8 (1992; Zbl 0765.17014)]. Also, the problem is equivalent to determining solutions of the so-called \textit{braid equation}. In this paper, the authors give way to a new study of set-theoretic type solutions of the braid equation in the category of coalgebras. Indeed, each solution \(s: X \times X \to X \times X\) of the braid equation induces a solution \(\tilde{s}: kX \otimes kX \to kX \otimes kX\) that is the coalgebra morphism obtained by linearization of \(s\). Thus, the underlying idea of the paper is to replace \(kX\) by an arbitrary coalgebra \(Y\). They show the relationships between set-theoretical solutions and common tools in the study of solutions remain valid also in their setting. They begin the study of Hopf \(q\)-braces and prove that they are equivalent to the notion of weak braiding operator. Also, they define Hopf skew-braces as a particular type of Hopf \(q\)-braces. They introduce the concept of invertible \(1\)-cocycle and we prove that the categories of Hopf skew-braces and invertible \(1\)-cocycles are equivalent.
