The odd-dimensional analogues of Hermitian structures are normal almost contact metric structures. It is possible to construct Hermitian manifolds starting from almost contact metric ones by considering products with \(\mathbb{R}\) as in the work of \textit{S. Sasaki} and \textit{Y. Hatakeyama} [Tohoku Math. J., II. Ser. 13, 281--294 (1961; Zbl 0112.14002)], or from a principal fibre bundle over the odd-dimensional base with structure group \(S^1.\) Conditions about the integrability of the corresponding almost complex structure on the total space of the principal bundle were studied by \textit{Y. Ogawa} [Tohoku Math. J., II. Ser. 15, 148--161 (1963; Zbl 0147.41002)]. For an almost contact metric manifold \(N,\) the authors find conditions for which either the total space of an \(S^1\)-bundle over \(N\) or the Riemannian cone over \(N\) admits a strong Kähler with torsion (SKT) structure. In this way, they construct new 6-dimensional SKT manifolds. Notice that on compact complex surfaces, SKT metrics can be found in the conformal class of any Hermitian metric as was shown by \textit{P. Gauduchon} [Math. Ann. 267, 495--518 (1984; Zbl 0523.53059)], but this is not the case for higher dimensions. The reader interested in the previously known 6-dimensional examples is redirected to the works by \textit{A. Fino, M. Parton} and \textit{S. Salamon} [Comment. Math. Helv. 79, No.~2, 317--340 (2004; Zbl 1062.53062)], \textit{L. Ugarte} [Transform. Groups 12, No.~1, 175--202 (2007; Zbl 1129.53052)], \textit{D. Grantcharov, G. Grantcharov} and \textit{Y. S. Poon} [J. Differ. Geom. 78, No.~1, 13--32 (2008; Zbl 1171.53044)] and \textit{A. Swann} [Duke Math. J. 155, No.~2, 403--431 (2010; Zbl 1214.53060)]. Moreover, the paper studies the geometric structure induced on hypersurfaces of an SKT manifold and uses such structures to construct new SKT manifolds via appropriate evolution equations. Hyper-Kähler with torsion (HKT) structures on the total space of an \(S^1\)-bundle over manifolds with three almost contact structures are also studied.
