The author classifies generic caustics and wavefronts, generated by a hypersurface in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with \(n=5\) or \(6\) respectively, or by a hypersurface with a smooth boundary in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with \(n=3\) or \(4\) respectively. The case of a hypersurface with no boundary is reduced to the study of Lagrangian and Legendrian singularities as in [\textit{V.~I.~Arnol'd, A.~N.~Varchenko} and \textit{S~M.~Gusejn-Zade}, Singularities of differentiable maps. Volume I: Monographs in Mathematics, Vol. 82. Boston-Basel-Stuttgart: Birkhäuser (1985; Zbl 0554.58001)]. The boundary case leads to so called reticular Lagrangian and Legendrian singularities, also known as Lagrangian and Legendrian pairs, studied by \textit{I. Scherback} [Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 201, 363--373 (1994; Zbl 0833.57016)] for the same reason. The author uses methods of \textit{G. Ishikawa} [Banach Cent. Publ. 50, 123--135 (1999; Zbl 1071.58506)] to simplify the argument from his earlier works on this subject. Methods are partially applicable to the case of hypersurfaces with singular boundaries (with corners).
