The purpose of this paper is to study a number of new torus-birth scenarios that can be observed in multilevel power converters as the gain in the feedback control is increased. The special form of complexity that manifests itself in these systems derives from the fact that the region of existence for the stable and unstable tori produced in connection with one torus-birth bifurcation overlaps the region of the existence for the tori produced in another torus-birth bifurcation. It is observed both the formation of multi-layered tori and the coexistence of different stable resonance tori. It is examined some of the local and global bifurcations involved in the development of coexisting and multi-layered tori through subsequent torus-birth bifurcations. The simplest version of a converter system contains two switches that connect or disconnect the voltage supply to the load via a passive filter. The fractional connection time is controlled through a feedback that takes its input from the difference between the realized load voltage and a reference voltage.
