In the Euclidean space \({\mathbb R}^3\), the classical Björling problem is to find a minimal surface containing a prescribed analytic strip. The problem was posed by E. G. Björling, and solved by E.G. Björling and Schwarz, respectively. A solution of this problem always exists, is unique and is explicitly expressed by the Schwarz formula for minimal surfaces. These results have inspired many authors to obtain analogous results in other ambient spaces. For instance, the Björling problem for space-like surfaces in Lorentz-Minkowski space \({\mathbb L}^3\) was considered by Alías, Chaves and Mira. Here, the authors consider the Björling problem for time-like spaces in \({\mathbb L}^3\). They solve the Björling problem for time-like surfaces in \({\mathbb L}^3\) through a split-complex representation formula. As applications, they also show that the minimal time-like surfaces of revolution as well as minimal ruled time-like surfaces can be characterized as solutions of certain adequate Björling problems in the Lorentz-Minkowski space.
