In the article under review, the authors present an explicit correspondence between the geometrically constructed simple modules of Ginzburg and the combinatorially constructed simple modules of Dipper, James and Mathas, of the affine Hecke algebra of type \(A\) at roots of unity. Most often the combinatorial approach is preferred, but on occasion the geometric approach has advantages. Thus, such an explicit correspondence is useful. In the geometric construction, the simple modules are labeled by aperiodic multisegments, while in the combinatorial construction, they are labeled by Kleshchev multipartitions. A key observation is that both sets of labels have structure of Kashiwara crystals. The authors describe this crystal embedding explicitly, which gives the module correspondence. The authors then give two proofs of the modular branching rule. The second proof, given in the framework of Fock spaces, is combinatorial, while the first proof is geometric and more direct, and generalizes work of Vazirani.
