In this paper the propagation characteristics of plane and Rayleigh-type surface waves in an incompressible transversely isotropic diffusive material are studied. The author presents the governing equations of the nonlocal diffusion elasticity of a linear, homogeneous and transversely isotropic incompressible material in a plane. The velocity equations for homogeneous plane waves are obtained by means of the time-harmonic solution technique. The surface wave solutions of the governing equations show the existence of one mode of Rayleigh-type surface waves for given material parameters. The speed variations of plane waves and Rayleigh-type surface wave are illustrated graphically. A numerical example is considered which shows the effects of nonlocality, diffusion and material anisotropy on plane and Rayleigh surface wave speeds.
