A classical result of \textit{V. Guillemin} and \textit{S. Sternberg} [Invent. Math. 67, 515--538 (1982; Zbl 0503.58018)] is that for each positive integer \(k\) there exists a natural invertible map \(A_k\) from the ``first quantize then reduce'' space to the ``first reduce then quantize'' space. The map \(A_k\) is not unitary and moreover, is not even unitary to leading order as \(k\rightarrow \infty \). The present author and \textit{B. Hall} showed in [Commun. Math. Phys. 275, No. 2, 401--442 (2007; Zbl 1136.53063)] that when the so-called metaplectic correction is introduced, one obtains an analogue \(B_k\) of the Guillemin-Sternberg map which, though still not unitary in general for any fixed \(k\), becomes unitary in the semiclassical limit \(k\rightarrow \infty \). The unitarity, or lack thereof, of the map \(A_k\) (resp. \(B_k\)) can be measured by a certain function \(I_k\) (resp. \(J_k\)). The main results of the paper under review are explicit expressions for \(I_k\) and \(J_k\) as well as complete asymptotics expansions of \(I_k\) and \(J_k\) as \(k\rightarrow \infty \).
