In the complex local homogeneous coordinates \([Z:=(z_1, \ldots, z_{n+2})]\) of the complex projective space \(\mathbb C P^{n+1}\), a complex hyperquadric \(Q_n\) is represented as a complex submanifold by the defining equation\N\[\N\sum_{j=1}^{n+2} z_j^2=0.\N\]\NIt is well-known that \(Q_n\) is actually a real Grassmann manifold \(G(2,n+2; \mathbb R)\). In [\textit{J. Wang} et al., Differ. Geom. Appl. 80, Article ID 101840, 15 p. (2022; Zbl 1486.53077)], the authors and Xu established a Simon-type integral inequality for compact Riemannian surfaces in \(G(k, N)\). Moreover, they determined all holomorphic \(2\)-spheres of constant curvature in \(G(2,N)\) with the square norm \(S\) of the second fundamental form enjoying the so-called pinched inequality. Such holomorphic \(2\)-spheres are denoted shortly by ``PCCH \(S^2\)''.\N\NThe main objective of the paper under review is to generalize to \(G(3,N)\) the already mentioned classification of PCCH \(S^2\). The primary approach used in this paper is the method of moving frames and harmonic sequences developed by \textit{S.-s. Chern} and \textit{J. G. Wolfson} [Am. J. Math. 105, 59--83 (1983; Zbl 0521.53050)]. In particular, the authors show as their main result that every PCCH \(S^2\) in \(G(3,N)\) can be decomposed as a direct sum of some ``foundation stones''.
