The study of rigidity of symplectic pairs is extended from the positive definite case to the indefinite one. It is shown that indefinite strictly almost Kähler and opposite Kähler structures \((J, J')\) on a four-dimensional manifold with \(J\)-invariant Ricci operator are rigid. The notion of recursion operator as a structure that intertwines pairs of symplectic two-forms is recalled. It is shown that the Kähler form of a four-dimensional indefinite almost Hermitian structure is anti-selfdual instead of selfdual as it is in the Riemannian case. The situation is completely different in the para-Hermitian case. Examples of nonhomogeneous four-dimensional manifolds which admit strictly almost para-Kähler and opposite para-Kähler structures \((J, J')\) with \(J\)-invariant Ricci operator are given. They are characterized by means of the metric of the four-dimensional Walker manifold. It is argued that such a structure is locally isometric to a four dimensional Riemannian three-symmetric space.
