The authors refer to a recent large deviation multifractal formalism, based on histograms of wavelet leader coefficients, that was proved to be efficient for uniform Hölder functions, as compared to other wavelet-based formalisms. Their main contribution is the extension of this efficiency for non-uniform Hölder functions. Specifically, they obtain optimal bounds for both wavelet and wavelet leader histograms for all functions in the critical Besov space; and then they compute these histograms for quasi-all functions in the latter space, in the sense of Baire category. Although increasing parts of these histograms have increasing visibility, they do not always coincide. Moreover, the wavelet leader histograms method covers the entire Hölder spectrum, whereas the wavelet histograms method covers it only in part.
