The strong $\Phi$-summability a.e. of trigonometric Fourier series has already been studied by several authors. In this paper this problem is investigated for double trigonometric Fourier series. \par Let $\{S_{M,N}(x,y,f)\}$ be the sequence of rectangular partial sums of the double trigonometric Fourier series of a function $f\in L([0,2\pi]^2)$ and let $\Phi$ be a continuous, increasing non-negative function on $[0,\infty]$, with $\Phi(0)=0$. In the present paper it is proved that if \[ \limsup_{t\to +\infty}\frac{\ln \Phi(t)}{\sqrt{t/\ln \ln t}}<\infty, \] then for any $f\in L Log L([0,2\pi]^2)$, the relation \[ \lim_{N,M\to \infty}\frac{1}{NM}\sum_{i=0}^{N-1}\sum_{j=0}^{M-1} \Phi(|S_{i,j}(x,y,f)-f(x,y)|) =0 \] holds a.e. \par This theorem strengthens earlier obtained results in this direction on double trigonometric Fourier series. \par The authors claim that their method of proof allows to strengthen this theorem under the weaker condition \[ \limsup_{t\to +\infty}\frac{\ln \Phi(t)}{\sqrt{t}}<\infty, \] that hypothetically may be the optimal bound.
