This paper deals with three-dimensional nonlinear autonomous ordinary differential equations having a small parameter coefficient of one of the three derivatives with respect to time. It is known that the presence of this small parameter leads to slow motions on a surface, and fast motions outside. This situation may give rise to relaxation periodic oscillations, and more complex dynamical behaviors. The authors consider a wide class of three-dimensional systems generating chaos of broken torus type. It is also shown how a system defined in a phase plane with a limit cycle can be completed to a 3D system with chaos of the type indicated. With respect to the references quoted the authors' contribution is original and gives an understanding of such a chaos generation.
