The notion of support has been fundamental in the study of tensor triangulated categories, assigning some kind of ideals in a tensor triangulated category to subsets of some suitable spectrum. A foundational example is the support function defined by Benson, Iyengar, and Krause that takes an object of a compactly generated triangulated category \(\mathcal T\) with an action of a Noetherian graded ring to a subset of the homogenous Zariski spectrum of that ring. If \(T\) is a rigidly-compactly generated tensor triangulated category, then this support induces a map taking any localizing ideal of \(\mathcal T\) to a subset of supports; of particular interest is when this map is a bijection giving a stratification. As a key application of this theory, this map is a bijection when \(\mathcal T\) is the stable module category of a finite group \(G\) with respect to a field \(k\) of positive characteristic and the ring is the cohomology ring of \(G\) with coefficients in \(k\).\N\NHowever, the assumption that the ring be Noetherian is critical. To understand broader examples, there has been much interest in generalizing support functions to settings with weaker assumptions on the ring. Balmer and Favi have given a generalization that takes values in the Balmer spectrum of the compact objects in \(\mathcal T\), where this Balmer spectrum is weakly Noetherian. A further generalization was given by Sanders, who makes use of the localizing topology on the Balmer spectrum.\N\NIn this paper, the author develops another theory of support and compares it to that of Sanders, showing that they agree under some hypotheses. However, they show that the weakly Noetherian condition is still necessary to get a stratification. The main example motivating these results is a stratification of the stable module category equipped with an action of the Tate cohomology, which is not Noetherian.
