This paper studies the notion of excess of fusion frames as a measure of redundancy in separable Hilbert spaces. Extending the classical concept of frame excess, the authors develop an operator-theoretic framework for defining and computing excess at the level of subspaces. They establish connections between the excess of fusion frames and that of associated local frames, while clarifying differences between these notions. Explicit methods for computing excess are presented, and the behavior of excess under orthogonal complements is analyzed. The paper also investigates Q-dual fusion frames, showing that, unlike ordinary frames, Q-dual fusion frames may have excess significantly larger than the original fusion frame. These results provide a unified and systematic approach to redundancy in fusion-frame theory. Several illustrative examples are provided throughout the paper to demonstrate the computation and behavior of excess in different fusion-frame settings.
