The problem of determining when expanding horospheres in hyperbolic manifolds equidistribute (and how rapidly or effectively they do so) is central to many different questions in homogeneous dynamics and its applications. There are multiple approaches to this circle of problems within which one broad stream is `dynamical' (using, in particular, mixing) and another is `spectral'. The latter is further developed here using in part some ideas of \textit{A. V. Kontorovich} [Herzog Math. J. 149, Nr. 1, 1-36 (2009; Zbl 1223.11113)] and its strength and adaptability is shown by recovering and strengthening an effective equidistrubution result of \textit{A. Mohammadi} and \textit{H. Oh} [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 17, No. 4, 837--897 (2015; Zbl 1391.11137)] and to certain higher rank settings.
