A natural generalization of a numerical semigroup \(S \subset \mathbb{N}\), a widely studied object, is a generalized numerical semigroup. It is defined as an additive submonoid \(S\) of \(\mathbb{N}^d\) such that \(\mathbb{N}^d-S\) is finite. The concepts of symmetric and almost symmetric numerical semigroups can also be defined for generalized numerical semigroups. In this article, the authors classify the generalized numerical semigroups in \(\mathbb{N}^d\) of embedding dimension \(2d + 1\) having unique Frobenius allowable element. By using these results, they prove that a generalized numerical semigroup in \(\mathbb{N}^d\) of embedding dimension \(2d + 1\) for \(d >1\) is symmetric if and only if it has a unique Frobenius allowable element. Moreover, this implies that symmetric and almost symmetric generalized numerical semigroups coincide in embedding dimension \(2d +1\) for \(d > 1\). They state that the type of an almost symmetric generalized numerical semigroup in \(\mathbb{N}^d\) of embedding dimension \(2d + 1\) is bounded by 2. Depending on some computations they conjecture that the type of a symmetric generalized numerical semigroup of embedding dimension \(2d + 2\) can be at most 3.
