In this paper, the authors provide some nilpotency criteria for the terms of the lower central series of a finite group involving the order of their standard generators (Theorem 1.3). Moreover, when the finite group is solvable, they provide a characterization for the nilpotency of the terms of the derived series of the group (Theorem 1.4).\N\NFor the proof of the theorems they use a \(p\)-nilpotency criterion, \(p\) a prime, proved by the second author [J. Group Theory, 21, 1111--1116 (2018; Zbl 1437.20015).\N\NThe proof of the first result also relies on the positive solution of the Ore conjecture, which states that any element of a non-abelian simple group is a commutator, obtained by \textit{M. W. Liebeck} et al. [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 12, No. 4, 939--1008 (2010; Zbl 1205.20011)] and on the fact that all but finitely many quasi-simple groups have the same property, proved by the same authors [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 43, 1079--1092 (2011; Zbl 1236.20011)].
