Let \(G\) be a second-countable amenable group with a uniform \(k\)-approximate lattice \(\Lambda\) and let \(\pi\) be a projective (or unitary) discrete series representation of \(G\) (equivalently, a representation with square-integrable matrix coefficients) of positive formal degree \(d_{\pi}\). The formal degree \(d_{\pi}\) depends on the point spectrum of \(\pi\) and on the Haar measure \(\mu\) of \(G\).\N\NIt is shown that a certain density estimate involving \(\Lambda\), bounded below by \(d_{\pi}/k\), is necessary for the coherent system \(\pi(\Lambda)\) to be complete in the representation Hilbert space \(H_{\pi}\). On the other hand, it is proved that if the coherent system \(\pi(\Lambda^{2})\) is minimal, then a complementary estimate involving \(\Lambda^{2}\), bounded above by \(d_{\pi}k\), is obtained. These implications recover sharp density theorems for uniform lattices and yield new results for Gabor systems in the Hilbert space \(L^{2}(\mathbb{R})\).\N\NAs an application, necessary density conditions are derived for coherent frames and Riesz sequences associated with general discrete sets. The results are also valid for amenable unimodular groups, including those of possibly exponential growth.\N\NThe completeness of a coherent system\N\[\N\{\pi(\lambda)g : \lambda \in \Lambda\},\N\]\Nfor \(g \in H_{\pi}\), is related to the lower and upper Beurling densities of \(\Lambda\). These are defined as the lower and upper limits of the infima and suprema of the ratios\N\[\N\frac{|\Lambda \cap gK_n|}{\mu(K_n)},\N\]\Nwhere \((K_n)\) is a strong Følner (or van Hove) sequence in \(G\).\N\NLet \(k \in \mathbb{N}\). A subset \(\Lambda \subset G\) is called a \emph{\(k\)-approximate subgroup} of \(G\) if it contains the identity element of \(G\), is symmetric (that is, \(\Lambda^{-1} = \Lambda\)) and there exists a finite subset \(F \subset G\) with \(|F| \le k\) such that\N\[\N\Lambda^{2} \subset F\Lambda.\N\]\NSuch a \(k\)-approximate subgroup is called a \emph{uniform \(k\)-approximate lattice} if it is a Delone set in \(G\).
