Let \(\mathcal{L}(\mathscr{H}_0, \mathscr{H}_1)\) denote the space of all bounded linear operators between two Hilbert spaces \(\mathscr{H}_0\) and \(\mathscr{H}_1\). Given a pair \((\mathscr{H}_0, \mathscr{H}_1)\) and a \(C^*\)-subalgebra \(A\) of \(\mathcal{L}(\mathscr{H}_0)\), the author studies certain closed subspaces of \(\mathcal{L}(\mathscr{H}_0, \mathscr{H}_1)\) that naturally carry the structure of a right Hilbert \(A\)-module. He investigates adjointable operators and compact module operators on these subspaces and proves that every right Hilbert \(C^*\)-module over a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) admits an isometric representation as a closed subspace of \(\mathcal{L}(\mathscr{H}_0, \mathscr{H}_1)\) for some suitable pair \((\mathscr{H}_0, \mathscr{H}_1)\).\N\NThe author then introduces representations of \((A,B)\) \(C^*\)-correspondences on pairs of Hilbert spaces. This framework generalizes Exel's theory of representations for Hilbert \(A\)-\(B\)-bimodules, see \textit{R. Exel} [K-Theory 7, No. 3, 285--308 (1993; Zbl 0792.46051)], demonstrating that any \(C^*\)-correspondence is isometrically isomorphic to a closed subspace of \(\mathcal{L}(\mathscr{H}_0, \mathscr{H}_1)\) for some pair of Hilbert spaces \((\mathscr{H}_0,\mathscr{H}_1)\).\N\NAs an application, he shows that an \((A,B)\) \(C^*\)-correspondence \((\mathcal{X}, \varphi)\) admits a unique Hilbert \(A/\ker(\varphi)\)-\(B\)-bimodule structure if and only if \(\mathcal{K}_B(\mathcal{X}) \subseteq \varphi(A)\), where \(\mathcal{K}_B(\mathcal{X})\) denotes the ideal of the compact-module maps from \(\mathcal{X}\) to itself. This yields necessary and sufficient conditions for \((\mathcal{X}, \varphi)\) to possess a unique Hilbert \(A\)-\(B\)-bimodule structure. Furthermore, he proves that for any two \(C^*\)-correspondences sharing the same middle action, their interior tensor product can be represented on a pair of Hilbert spaces using specific representations of the original correspondences.
