The exponential operators introduced by \textit{M. E. H. Ismail} and \textit{C. P. May} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 63, 446--462 (1978; Zbl 0375.41011)] were intensively investigated in the literature. \textit{M. Herzog} [Symmetry 13, No. 4, Paper No. 637, 10 p. (2021; \url{doi:10.3390/sym13040637})] defined and investigated the semi-exponential operators. In this paper the authors extend the study of semi-exponential Baskakov type operators, defined as composition of two other operators. They establish Voronovskaja type results in different spaces, a local convergence result and present theorems involving difference of operators. Additionally, they investigate the convergence of the operators in terms of different type of moduli of continuity. The general results are illustrated by some graphs.
