      The authors consider a laminated beam model for two Timoshenko beams and with pointwise damping written as: \(\rho _{1}\varphi _{tt}-G(\varphi _{x}-3s+\zeta )_{x}+\gamma _{1}\delta (x-\xi )\varphi _{t}=0\), \(\rho _{2}\zeta _{tt}-D\zeta _{xx}+G(\varphi _{x}-3s+\zeta )_{x}+\gamma _{2}\delta (x-\xi )\zeta _{t}=0\), \(\rho _{3}s_{tt}-3Ds_{ss}-G(\varphi _{x}-3s+\zeta )_{x}+4\sigma s+\gamma _{3}s_{t}=0\), \(s\) being the slip between the Timoshenko beams. The boundary and initial conditions: \(\varphi (0,t)=\varphi (L,t)=\zeta (0,t)=\zeta (L,t)=s(0,t)=s(L,t)=0\), \(\forall t>0\), \(\varphi (x,0)=\varphi 0(x)\), \(\zeta (x,0)=\zeta _{0}(x)\), \(s(x,0)=s_{0}(x)\) , \(\forall x\in (0,L)\), \(\varphi _{t}(x,0)=\varphi _{1}(x)\), \(\zeta _{t}(x,0)=\zeta _{1}(x)\), \(s_{t}(x,0)=s_{1}(x)\), \(\forall x\in (0,L)\), are imposed. The authors first transform this system to the transmission problem: \(\rho _{1}\varphi _{tt}-\mathfrak{S}_{x}=0\), \(\rho _{2}\zeta _{tt}-D\zeta _{xx}+\mathfrak{S}=0\), \(\rho _{3}s_{tt}-3Ds_{xx}-3\mathfrak{S} +4\sigma s+\gamma _{3}s_{t}=0\), in \(I\times (0,T)\), with \(\mathfrak{S} =G(\varphi _{x}-3s+\zeta )\), \(I=]0,L[\setminus \{\xi \}\), and with the preceding boundary and initial conditions, plus transmission conditions at \( \xi \).\ They can use the semigroup framework: \(U_{t}=\mathcal{A}U\), \( U(0)=U_{0}=(\varphi _{0},\varphi _{1},\zeta _{0},\zeta _{1},s_{0},s_{1})^{\intercal }\), where \(U=(\varphi ,\varphi _{t},\zeta ,\zeta _{t},s,s_{t})\), and observe that the associated operator \(\mathcal{A}\) is the infinitesimal generator of a \(C^{0}\)-semigroup of contractions \( \mathcal{T}(t)=e^{t\mathcal{A}}:\mathcal{H}\rightarrow \mathcal{H}\), with \( \mathcal{H}=H_{0}^{1}\times L^{2}\times H_{0}^{1}\times L^{2}\times H_{0}^{1}\times L^{2}\). This prove the well posedness of the problem: For any \(U_{0}\in \mathcal{H}\), there exists a unique mild solution to this transmission problem. Moreover if the initial data \(U_{0}\) belongs to \(D( \mathcal{A})\), the mild solution is a strong solution satisfying \(U\in C^{1}(0,T;\mathcal{H})\cap C^{0}(0,T;D(\mathcal{A}))\). The main result of the paper proves that the semigroup \(\mathcal{T}(t)=e^{t\mathcal{A}}\) associated with the above system is exponentially stable, if \(\xi \neq (n/m)L \), \(\forall n,m\in \mathbb{N}\), with \(n\) and \(m\) co-prime. For the proof, the authors mainly use a necessary and sufficient condition for a semigroup of contractions to be exponentially stable in terms of its essential growth bound, following the method proposed by \textit{K.-J. Engel} and \textit{R. Nagel} [One-parameter semigroups for linear evolution equations. Berlin: Springer (2000; Zbl 0952.47036)].
