In this survey, the author shows how Galois representations have been applied to recent results. In particular, they show how Galois representation theory can be used in Kummer theory for commutative algebraic groups, in the study of rational points on ramified covers of abelian varieties, and in the computation of endomorphism rings of abelian varieties over number fields.
