Let \(G\) be a connected semisimple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field \(\Bbbk\), and let \(B\) and \(B^-\) be a pair of opposite Borel subgroups of \(G\); \(H=B\cap B^-\) is a Cartan subgroup of \(G\) and \(W=N_G(H)/H\) is the Weyl group, where \(N_G(H)\) is the normalizer of \(H\) in \(G\). The group \(G\) yields Bruhat decompositions \(G=\bigcup_{w\in W}BwB=\bigcup_{w\in W}BwB^-\). Given a conjugacy class \(C\) of \(G\), let \(W_C=\{w\in W:C\cap(BwB)\neq\emptyset\}\) and \(W_C^-=\{w\in W:C\cap(BwB^-)\neq\emptyset\}\). For a conjugacy class \(C\) in \(G\), let \(m_C\) be the unique element in \(W\) such that \(C\cap(Bm_CB) \) is dense in \(C\). The authors show \(W_{C}^-=\{w\in W:w\leq m_C\}\), where \(\leq\) is the Bruhat order. They study the element \(m_C\) for an abitrary conjugacy class \(C\) in \(G\); in particular they show that \(m_C\in W\) is the unique element of maximal length in its conjugacy class in \(W\). The authors also show that if \(G=\text{SL}(n+1,\Bbbk)\), then for any conjugacy class \(C\) in \(\text{SL}(n+1,\Bbbk)\) and any involution \(w\in W\cong S_{n+1}\) that \(C\cap(BwB)\neq\emptyset\) if and only if \(l_2(w)\leq r(C)\), where \(l_2(w)\) is the number of distinct \(2\)-cycles in the cycle decomposition of \(w\), and \(r(C)=\min\{\text{rank}(g-cI):c\in\Bbbk\}\) for any \(g\in C\). They give an explicit description of the element \(m_C\) for every conjugacy class \(C\) of \(\text{SL}(n+1,\Bbbk)\), namely \(m_C=m_{[(n+1)/2]}\) if \(r(C)\geq[\frac{n+1}{2}]\), and \(m_C=m_{r(C)}\) if \(r(C)<[\frac{n+1}{2}]\).
