At first the authors prove that if the determinantal region (without zero) of a complex square matrix is disconnected, then it is a union of two opposite open sectors (or open rays). Then they give a characterization of those ray patterns whose determinantal regions become disconnected after deleting the origin. The characterization is based on three classes of matrices, which can be characterized in terms of the sets of distinct signed transversal products of their ray patterns.
