The authors of this paper study the moment-preserving cosine families generated by Laplace operators in \(C[0,1]\). Let \(i\) be a non-negative integer, the moment of order \(i\) about \(0\) is the linear functional on \(C[0,1]\) defined by \(F_if :=\int_0^1x^if(x)\,dx\). Given a Laplace operator \(A\) in \(C[0,1]\), we say that the related cosine family \((C_A)\) preserves the \(i^{\mathrm{th}}\) moment if, for all \(t\in\mathbb R\) and \(f\in C[0,1]\), we have \(F_iC_A(t)f=F_if\). Among other results, the paper states that a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a cosine family generated a Laplace operator in \(C[0,1]\) that preserves the moments of order \(i\) and \(j\) about \(0\) is that either \(i\) or \(j\) is zero. Moreover, it also states that the cosine family preserving the moments of order \(0\) and \(j\geq 1\) is uniquely determined and can be constructed by means of the abstract Kelvin formula.
