An invertible operator \(T:X\to X\) on a Banach space is called non-quasianalytic if \[ \sum_{n=0}^\infty \frac{\log\|T^n\|}{1+n^2}<\infty. \] A classical result of \textit{J. Wermer} [Duke Math. J. 19, 615--622 (1952; Zbl 0047.35806)] states that every non-quasianalytic operator \(T\) on a complex Banach space whose spectrum contains more than one point has nontrivial invariant subspaces. In the paper under review, the authors consider real versions of this result, showing, in particular, that every non-quasianalytic operator \(T\) on a real Banach space is symmetrically superdecomposable. This can be stated as a certain covering property of the spectrum of \(T\).
