For a Tychonoff space X, \(C_ p(X)\) is the space of all continuous real- valued functions on X with the pointwise topology. The paper contains the following results: (1) If \(C_ p(X)\) is Lindelöf, then it cannot contain a copy of the space \(\omega_ 1+1\) (with the order topology); (2) It is consistent with ZFC that if \(C_ p(X)\) is a Lindelöf space, then the tightness of any compact subset of \(C_ p(X)\) is countable. It is also remarked that a result of \textit{D. P. Baturov} [Vestn. Mosk. Univ., Ser. I 1987, No.4, 66-69 (1987; Zbl 0626.54002)] (which states that if X is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space, then for every \(A\subset C_ p(X)\), \(\ell (A)=e(X))\) can be generalized as follows: Let X be a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space, \(Y\subset C_ p(X)\). If for every infinite set \(A\subset Y\) there is an accumulation point in \(C_ p(X)\), then \(\bar Y\) is compact.
