The sequence \(f:\mathbb{N}_0\to\{z\in\mathbb{C}:|z|=1\}\) is called \(q\)-semimultiplicative if \(f(0)=1\) and there exists \(r\geq 0\) such that \[ f(n+m+k)=\frac{f(n+m)f(m+k)}{f(m)} \] for all \(n,m,k\geq 0\) such that there exists \(\ell>0\) with \(k<q^\ell\), \(q^\ell|m\), \(m<q^{\ell+r}\), and \(q^{\ell+r}|n\). In this paper, for the \(q\)-semimultiplicative sequence \(f\), the author proves that \(\mathbb{E}_{n<N}f(n)\mu(n)=o(1)\) as \(N\to\infty\). This shows the validity of a special case of a conjecture due to Sarnak asserting the same asymptotic for all deterministic functions \(f:\mathbb{N}_0\to\mathbb{C}\).
