The author gives constructions of sets in proving the following two results: I. Let \(M\subset {\mathbb{R}}\) be a measurable set of positive (Lebesgue) measure. Then there exists a \(G_{\delta}\)-set \(S\subseteq M\) with \(int(S+S)=\emptyset\) which is not contained in any \(F_{\sigma}\)-set of measure zero. II. There exists a translation invariant \(\sigma\)-ideal D on \({\mathbb{R}}\) such that (i) any countable subset of \({\mathbb{R}}\) is contained in a \(G_{\delta}\)-set belonging to D, (ii) any \(F_{\sigma}\)-set of measure zero belongs to D, and (iii) there exists an \(F_{\sigma}\)-set \(F\in D\) of positive measure.
