In this paper, the authors improve results by \textit{R. L. Frank} et al. [J. Geom. Anal. 17, No. 4, 559--567 (2007; Zbl 1137.82025)] and \textit{C. Hainzl} and \textit{R. Seiringer} [Math. Nachr. 283, No. 3, 489--499 (2010; Zbl 1193.58003)] on the weak coupling limit of eigenvalues for Schrödinger-type operators whose kinetic energy vanishes on a codimension one submanifold. The main technical innovation that allows them to go beyond the potentials considered in [Frank et al., loc. cit.; Hainzl and Seiringer, loc. cit.] is the use of the Tomas-Stein theorem. This paper is organized as follows: Section 1 is an introduction to the subject and main results. Section 2 deals with some preliminaries. Section 3 deals with the proof of the main result and Section 4 with further results. The paper is supported by two appendices, one on Hölder continuity of the Tomas-Stein theorem and another on further \(L^2\) based restriction estimates.
