The self-adjoint matrix Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem \[ -Y''+V(x)Y=\lambda Y,\; Y(0)=Y(1)=0,\; V=V^{*}\in L^2([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^{N\times N}) \] is considered. The inverse problem of recovering \(V(x)\) from the spectral data is studied in the particular case when \[ \int_0^1 V(x)dx=\text{diag}(v_1,\dots,v_N),\; v_1<v_2<\ldots<v_N. \tag{1} \] The main result is Theorem 1.1, where necessary and sufficient conditions on the spectral data are provided. The solution of this inverse problem was given in [\textit{V. Yurko}, Inverse Probl. 22, No. 4, 1139--1149 (2006; Zbl 1107.34005)] in the more general case of non-self-adjoint operators without restriction (1).
