The aim of this paper is to use the method of a tuple datum \(\mathbb{D}=(G,\chi,a,\alpha)\) to describe the structure and representations of a finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebra \(H\) of rank one and its Drinfeld double \(D(H)\) over an algebraically closed field \(k\), where \(G=G(H)\). Suppose that the coradical \(H_0\) of \(H\) is a Hopf subalgebra so as to obtain the Hopf algebra filtration \(\{H_n\}\) of \(H\). Let \(n=\dim(k\otimes_{H_0}H_1)-1\), which is called the `rank' of \(H\). A Hopf algebra \(H_\mathbb{D}\) is given from a tuple datum \(\mathbb{D}=(G,\chi,a,\alpha)\), which is generated by \(G\) and \(\chi\) subject to the group relations for \(G\) and some other relations among \(G,\chi,a,\alpha\). Firstly, it is shown that (i) every finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra of rank one over \(k\) is isomorphic to \(H_\mathbb{D}\) for some datum \(\mathbb{D}\); (ii) for a datum \(\mathbb{D}\), the Hopf algebra \(H_\mathbb{D}\) is pointed and has rank one. Secondly, when \(\mathbb{D}\) is of nilpotent type, they prove that every finite dimensional indecomposable \(H_\mathbb{D}\)-module is uniserial and the number of non-isomorphic indecomposable \(H_\mathbb{D}\)-modules equals \(|G|n\). The blocks of \(H_\mathbb{D}\) are also given. About the Drinfeld double \(D(H_\mathbb{D})\), the following results are obtained: (i) \(D(H_\mathbb{D})\) is generated subject to the relations defining \(H_\mathbb{D}\) and \(H^*_\mathbb{D}\) and some other relations; (ii) every finite dimensional simple \(D(H_\mathbb{D})\)-module is projective and the number of such \(D(H_\mathbb{D})\)-modules is given; (iii) the blocks of \(D(H_\mathbb{D})\) are characterized.
