The paper is devoted to harmonic analysis on the homogeneous space \(SL(n+1,{\mathbb R})/GL(n,{\mathbb R})\), in particular to the interaction between harmonic analysis and pseudodifferential analysis. Pseudodifferential operators on functions on \({\mathbb R}^{n+1}\) that commute with the Euler operator are considered. The symbols of such operators can be regarded as functions on a reduced phase space, isomorphic to the above homogeneous space. As a result one obtains a calculus of pseudodifferential operators acting on spaces of appropriate sections of line bundles over the projective space \(P_n({\mathbb R})\). This approach has several advantages. In particular, it gives an explicit version of the continuous part of the decomposition \(L^2(G_n/H_n)\) under the quasi-regular representation of \(G_n\). Moreover, one obtains interesting spacial symbols which arise from the resolvents of certain infinitesimal operators.
